ACCOUNTANT (Fixed-Term, 7 Months – Maternity Leave Cover, Part-Time)

Equip Church International is seeking an experienced and dedicated Accountant to join our team in Hoppers Crossing, VIC 3029 on a fixed-term, 7-month contract (with the possibility of extension). This part-time role (4 days per week) is a great opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven, not-for-profit organisation while maintaining work-life balance.

About the Role

As an Accountant at Equip Church International, you will play a key role in managing the church’s financial operations, ensuring compliance, and providing financial insights to support decision-making. Your responsibilities will include:

Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for accurate reporting.
Managing accounts payable and receivable and performing bank reconciliations.
Assisting with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
Ensuring compliance with accounting standards, tax laws, and regulatory obligations.
Providing financial advice and support to the Senior Pastor/CEO and leadership team.
Collaborating with the wider finance and admin team to improve processes and controls.

What We’re Looking For

Degree in Accounting or Finance, with CPA or CA qualification preferred.
Minimum 3 years’ experience in financial accounting and reporting, ideally in the not-for-profit sector.
Strong technical accounting skills, with a solid understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, and analysis.
Proficiency in MYOB accounting software and Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
Excellent attention to detail, strong time management, and the ability to work under pressure.
Effective communication skills, with the ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
A team player with a proactive and problem-solving approach.
Holds or is willing to obtain a Working with Children Check, Police Check, and ACC Safer Churches Training.
Must have the right to work in Australia.
Experience working for a not-for-profit organisation preferred.
