Job Title: Milson St Hub Communications Coordinator
Location: Charlestown and Garden Suburb Congregation, Hunter Presbytery, Uniting Church in Australia
Position Type: Part-time (2 days/week, approximately 14 hours)
Duration: Initial term is 6 months. Potential for extension.
Salary Range: $38.65 -$41.45 per hour + superannuation and additional on-costs
Reports to: Charlestown & Garden Suburb Uniting Church Council
Position Purpose:
The Milson St Hub Communications Coordinator will play a pivotal role in fostering deeper community connections and enhancing the public presence of the Charlestown Church. Through creative and strategic communication across digital, print, and in-person platforms, the coordinator will support the church’s mission to engage with diverse community groups and reflect the life, values, and witness of the Uniting Church.
Key Responsibilities:
· Community Engagement & Content Creation
o Build relationships with groups using the Charlestown Church property
o Collect and develop tailored promotional content for each group

- Highlight events and initiatives of the local congregation and wider UCA community
· Multimedia Communications
o Curate content for display on the church’s 85” digital screen
o Maintain and update the Milson St Hub website, newsletter, and social media platforms

- Design visually engaging materials that communicate church and community messages
· Strategic Promotion
o Develop pathways to faith exploration and increased church visibility
o Raise awareness of church activities among the wider Charlestown community

- Promote justice, environmental advocacy, cultural inclusion, and reconciliation initiatives
· Collaboration & Training
o Work closely with the minister, website/newsletter editors, and facility hire team
o Support church leadership in equipping congregation members with tools and training in storytelling, hospitality, and community building

Key Selection Criteria:
- Reading and understanding the Basis of Union, and having a preparedness to work within the polity and ethos of the Uniting Church in Australia
- Abiding by the policies and procedures of the Uniting Church in Australia Synod of NSW and the ACT
- Strong skills in communications, media production, and digital content creation
- Proficiency in managing websites, social media, and visual design tools
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a church or not-for-profit context
- Commitment to the ethos, values, and mission of the Uniting Church in Australia
· Excellent interpersonal and storytelling skills, with a focus on inclusion and partnership
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule and to track hours worked
Desirable:
- Experience in community engagement or Placemaking preferred
- Background in media ministry, or church communications
- Experience engaging diverse or multicultural communities
- Understanding of contemporary faith expression and discipleship pathways
